Project Overview

The below ground sumps and associated fuel piping at this UK military vehicle refueling refuelling facility were due for replacement as part of an underground risk management upgrade. The facility required a retrofit liquid tight replacement which could be fitted to their existing FRP GRP fuel tanks.

Key Requirements

  • A retrofit tank sump system which could be fitted to existing FRP GRP fuel tanks.

  • Easy safe fast access to tank sumps.

The Fibrelite & KPS Solution

  • Fibrelite’s FRP GRP tank access collar and collar ring chamber system allowed direct connection to the existing UST’s, providing a liquid-tight seal.
  • Fibrelite FRP GRP EL-T-Q510-P3-6 dispenser sumps provided a hard-wearing containment solution that will last for the lifetime of the site.
  • KPS 2” (75/63 mm) conductive double wall piping and fittings in custom non-standard 10-meter 10-metre lengths minimized minimised the number of welds required.
  • Lightweight Fibrelite FL90 manhole covers allow safe fast manual access to tank sumps using the Fibrelite ergonomically designed FL7A lifting handles.
  • The Fibrelite and KPS technical team provided support from specification to installation including on-site installation support and vacuum testing of the sumps to ensure liquid-tightness.
  • Adherence to the client’s tight build schedule.
  • KPS piping’s installer-friendly system simplified installation, with compact electrofusion fittings which require a minimum number of welds, welding both pipe walls simultaneously.
